The Hancock County School District proudly recognizes Mr. Billy Thomas as he retires from the Hancock County School Board after 16 years of dedicated service. Mr. Thomas began his tenure on the board in September 2008 and leaves behind a remarkable legacy of commitment to the students, staff, and community.
With over 35 years of experience as a public school educator, including years as a physical education teacher in Hancock County, Mr. Thomas brought a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the district. He holds a bachelor’s degree in education, a master’s degree in health and safety, and an educational specialist degree in school administration. Throughout his career, Mr. Thomas remained focused on one central goal: being part of a team that provides the highest quality education for every child in Hancock County.
In recognition of his unwavering dedication, the Mississippi School Boards Association passed a resolution in his honor:
“Now, Therefore, be it resolved, that the Board of Directors of the Mississippi School Boards Association does hereby recognize and honor Mr. Billy Thomas for his exemplary service, dedication to good governance, and steadfast commitment to the success of all students during his tenure as a member of the Hancock County School Board.”
In addition to this prestigious recognition, the Hancock County School Board has ensured Mr. Thomas’s legacy will be felt for generations to come by naming the home ticket and entrance area to the Hancock High School football field the “William ‘Billy’ Thomas Gate.” This honor reflects the many contributions Mr. Thomas has made to the district and its schools over the years.
