Hancock County School District is proud to recognize three outstanding educators whose leadership, dedication, and heart continue to uplift our schools and inspire our students. This year’s honorees represent the very best of H Nation—each bringing unique strengths that support our mission of graduating, motivating, and celebrating all.
Teacher of the Year: Heather Sours
Heather Sours is known for creating a classroom where curiosity thrives and learning comes alive. Her students explore through inquiry, STEM projects, Whole Brain Teaching, outdoor learning, and hands-on investigations that help them see themselves as true scientists and thinkers. Heather uses data intentionally, supports diverse learners, and helps students grow both academically and personally. Her work with Junior Beta, the Science Fair team, and her success in securing grants further enrich the school community. Heather’s passion and creativity make a lasting difference at West Hancock Elementary.

Staff of the Year: Caroline Fausett
Caroline Fausett serves as the ISR teacher and 4th–5th grade interventionist at West Hancock Elementary, supporting students with structure, consistency, and encouragement. She also leads the school’s Lego Club and lends her talents to many campus activities including Beta Club, PTO events, and the Renaissance Crew. Known for her reliability, compassion, and positive approach, Caroline brings a steady, student-centered presence to her work each day. Her commitment is reflected in her perfect attendance over the past three years and her dedication to helping students grow in confidence and responsibility.

Administrator of the Year: Dr. Lori Burkett
Dr. Lori Burkett leads East Hancock Elementary with heart, enthusiasm, and an unwavering belief in what her Gators can accomplish. EHE has ranked in the Top 10 statewide for the past two years under her leadership, a reflection of her commitment to strong instruction, meaningful relationships, and the “Gator Way.” Dr. Burkett values connection—she loves greeting her students each morning, visiting classrooms, and celebrating their growth. Her leadership creates a school culture where students, staffulty, and families feel supported and valued.
